A parrot called for its many colored feather pattern, the caique has two nicknames which are the dancing parrot, and seven color parrot. The colors on a caique are green, yellow, white, blue, black, and orange, and they have red eyes. The types of caiques can either have mostly green and white or green and black. The caique is a parrot from the Amazon rainforest. Caiques are not easy birds to care for and should not be attempted by anyone unfamiliar with raising parrots. Raising them can be very rewarding for an owner if that owner knows how to care for their pet properly.

Caiques are not very good flyers and prefer to jump around and walk from place to place. This hopping is the source of where the nickname the dancing parrot comes. Like acrobats these parrots like to climb and jump all over. Living in small groups and sometimes just pairs, these parrots are very playful and excellent climbers. They are very playful and entertaining to watch. A highly vocal bird with many different sounds, though not capable of speaking very well, the caique lives in the canopies of the trees. Caiques also are known for a very loud sound they make that sounds very similar to a fire alarm.

Eating a diet consisting mostly of seeds and fruit, caiques also need a hearty helping of flax seeds for proper digestion. They also can suffer from low vitamin A, so making sure that is part of their diet is essential. Parrots are not clean eater making sure to make a mess in the process. Cleaning their cages daily to get rid of waste and excess food is required. Parrots in the wild can fly away from their mess, in a cage that is not possible. A proper cage size for a caique is about 20 inches squared though they should have room to jump and climb.

Caiques are difficult pets to own, but they can be great companions. These parrots can be taught to make less noise than others if trained properly. They do need a great deal of time out of their cage interacting with people, because they can be feisty and resist human contact otherwise. These parrots should never be kept in pairs in a cage and can get jealous of other birds monopolizing their owners. Caiques are fun-loving climbers that are entertaining to watch and very lovable. Learning more about them and other parrots is necessary before deciding they are the right pet to own.
