Behavior – Parrot Temperaments and Personalities

Parrots all have very different personality types. Each parrot will have a different attitude based on species, treatment, training, and temperament. These things make up the total personality displayed by a parrot. Species is the most simple. If a species is prone to being rowdy or independent, then that will translate to a pet parrot. Several kinds of pets are dominated by the behaviors of a specific species and parrots are no different. There are limits to how the species can affect a parrot’s personality. For instance only a parrot that is scared will fight back instead of fly away.

A parrot’s behavior is affected most by how it is treated. If a parrot is often scared or timid it can be an indicator of abuse. On the other hand neglect can cause a parrot to be mean and sometimes violent. Proper treatment of a parrot will make it the amiable and fun-loving pet it can be. Treating any animal with extreme disregard causes damaging effects that are often permanent. Birds that are mistreated need special trainers to get them functioning properly in human households. Parrots are wonderful creatures that have the capacity to give a lot of love, and typically they want nothing more than to be treated the same way.

A parrot can be trained to do a lot of tricks, from talking and perching to riding a bicycle. Training can also be used to augment the habits of a parrot. Bad behavior can be corrected by the proper training techniques. This will not however affect a parrots underlying personality. The temperament also should not be affect. Temperament can determine how much of an attitude a parrot can have. Typical parrots will be naturally amiable but this is not always the case. The temperament is a foundation to all of a parrot’s behavior; even in dire situations it makes the difference.

The typical parrot behavior is to be very lively and attentive. Parrots pay attention to everything that is going on around them. They will make close human connections typically for life. Parrots can express several emotions from feeling sad to being excited. Parrots that are skittish are harder to train but they can be taught to be friendly and close to humans. Every parrot has a personality of its own and can form close bonds with people. Parrots or any animal that does supposedly bad things are only reacting to what how its human companions are caring for and treating it.
